Re: Sharing projects between solutions

Tech-Archive recommends: Speed Up your PC by fixing your registry

Hello Max,

In this article:
Chapter 3- Structuring Projects and Solutions in Source Control
http://www.codeplex.com/TFSGuide/Wiki/View.aspx?title=Chapter%203%20-%20Structuring%20Projects%20and%20Solutions%20in%20Source%20Control&referringTitle=Home
it introduces some best practices for project structuring in TFS. From my
point of view, the "Partitioned Solution" structure can be a good practice
for your scenario. Your class libraries can be regarded as "Project A" in
the figure 3.2, and it will be referenced by projects in sub-solutions. This
enables us to use project references rather than file references. Max, do
you agree? "Designing" is a topic "without the best, only has even better",
so I welcome other community members' input to complement the ideas.

Note: The MSDN Managed Newsgroup support offering is for non-urgent issues
where an initial response from the community or a Microsoft Support
Engineer within 1 business day is acceptable. Please note that each follow
up response may take approximately 2 business days as the support
professional working with you may need further investigation to reach the
most efficient resolution. The offering is not appropriate for situations
that require urgent, real-time or phone-based interactions or complex
project analysis and dump analysis issues. Issues of this nature are best
handled working with a dedicated Microsoft Support Engineer by contacting
Microsoft Customer Support Services (CSS) at

Hi,

We are using TFS 2008 and VSTS 2008.

We have a class library solution that contains a series of class library
projects (and their tests...)

We share the projects within this class library solution with all other
solutions. Is it a good practice? Is there any guideline that explains how
to do this?

Thank you,
Max
