Re: Annoying editor feature that can't be turned off

It is DevExpress after all.

To try it out, I installed VS2008 clean in a VMWare virtual machine.
It did not exhibit the "feature".

Then I installed DevExpress Refactor for VB.Net version 3.0.5: it
immediately started doing it.

Tried to disable DevExpress in tools / add-ins: no effect, it still does
it. Looked at add-in manager again: DevExpress wasn't disabled at all, you
simply can't. You can uncheck the checkbox for "DevExpress Tools" in the
add-in manager all you want, click OK, reopen add-in manager and the
checkbox will be on again.

A new release of DevExpress appeared a couple of weeks ago, but I haven't
downloaded it yet. I'll see if that changes anything.

Now that I located it, I could come up with some better googling terms and
find more about it. It seems there's another bug that it only exhibits in
modules (I was using a class), mentioned here:
http://msmvps.com/blogs/bill/archive/2008/03/28/auto-properties-what-ifs.aspx

And from the comments on that page, I learned that I'm not the only one who
wants to get rid of it.

Thanks to both for your replies.

I took some screenshots and put them online with comments (didn't want to
post in HTML on usenet):

The only add-in listed (and the only one I ever installed, as far as my
memory goes) is DevExpress, and disabling it doesn't fix the issue.

Also, I think (but I'm not certain) that it hasn't been doing this right
from the start, or I would have noticed it sooner.

It could very well have begun after I suffered from an acute case of "too
many fingers on the keyboard" syndrome, and pressed a series of key
combinations that wasn't exactly what I intended (something like trying to
hit Ctrl+M - Ctrl+O blindly to collapse all outlining, but with my fingers
hitting the wrong keys).

I seem to remember that something like that happened not long before I
first noticed it.

Thanks for Jeff's reply.

Hello Luc,

It seems you noticed an annoying behavior that VS 2008 automatically
collapses property definition on your side, correct? If I misunderstood
anything here, please don't hesitate to correct me. Actually, I haven't
seen this behavior on my VS 2008 without any Add-ins. I agree with Jeff. In
order to narrow down the issue, we suggest you disable entire add-ins in VS
2008 by "Tools | Add-In Manager". If this behavior changes, you may disable
them one by one to check which add-in results the issue.

Does the issue persist after you disabled entire add-ins?

Hope this helps. Please try the above method and let know the result. We
are glad to assist you.
Have a great day,
Best regards,
Wen Yuan
