File dialogs in IDE almost hosed
Tech-Archive recommends: Speed Up your PC by fixing your registry
Microsoft Development Environment 7.1.3088
Microsoft .Net Framework 1.1.4322 SP1
When I click on Project->Add Existing Item and then click on the Look In:
dropdown arrow, my system (Win XP Pro SP1) seems as if it is hanging, but
eventually gives me a list of folders. Navigating through these folders is
also like waiting for frozen molasses. This just started happening today,
after over a year of the IDE working smoothly. Windows Explorer has no
problem navigating my drives, and the disks seem to be working fine.
This problem reminds me of the old problem that sometimes happens when a
Windows application has most recently looked in a floppy drive for a file,
and later, when there's no longer a floppy in the drive, the app nonetheless
"remembers" the floppy as the "current" drive. It is possible that the VS
IDE is looking for a USB memory stick? If so, how do you "dislodge" a
temporary drive from the VS IDE file dialog memory?
Thanks
Timo
