I have a strange problem with Visual Studio. It began with VS 2002, I was
able to use CTRL+SPACE as my Edit.AutoCompleteWord for years and suddenly
one day it was no longer possible (I can only tie it to the installation of
Microsoft Office 2003). Since that moment only ALT+RIGHT ARROW can be used
for that purpose.
Now, I upgraded to Visual Studio 2003. It took over the settings of 2002 so
the same problem exists.
I look under Tools|Options and then go to the keyboard applet. There I look
for Edit.AutoCompleteWord in the "Default settings" applied to the Global
configuration. For this entry it shows TWO possibilitie: ALT+RIGHT ARROR
(first in the list) and CTRL+SPACE (2nd in the list).
Why I want the 2nd? simply because it is what I am used to and most
importantly because it is friendly, it only requires the use of one hand,
pinky on CTRL, thumb on SPACE and there it is, the word/variable you
wanted!!!
So you might think, so change it. Well, VS doesn't change it. I can select
CTRL-SPACE as the setting for default settings in Global (or text editor, it
doesn't matter, same thing happens). Then choose OK. At that point you might
think that the settings have been saved. NO! when you go back to the same
menu, it shows again the ALT+RIGHT ARROW!!!, and obviously if I exit VS and
restart it the same thing happens, I must use ALT+RIGHT ARROW or nothing.
Anybody knows if there is somewhere a save settings option? why on earth is
it so stubborn as to ignore my user settings???? I am quite annoyed with
this and I want it like it was before this "tragic event" happened.
I also created a copy of default settings, there I removed the ALT+RIGHT
ARROW so that CTRL+SPACE was the only option for Edit.AutoCompleteWord and
surprise suprise.... it still does not work!
Am I missing some obscure option? why can I not revert to it?
