Studio Hangs for minutes before opening

I once connected to my work computer and opened a Visual Studio solution
project on my home computer over the VPN connection. Ever since I did that
Visual Studio will hang for about two or three minutes when first opening,
regardless of whether I'm opening a specific project or just the launcher.
If I setup the vpn connection to my work computer before opening studio then
it opens quickly, so it seems apparent that upon loading it is looking for
something over that vpn connection.

Does anyone have some advice on where I can look for a solution to remove
this apparent dependency on a vpn connection that studio is looking for? It
is extremely frustrating to wait minutes for the IDE to open up.
