Dear Norman,
I hold the same opinion as yours and it is the reason I ask this question.
I believe that the web service only require the installation of CR XI
runtime and no Reporting Services is required. On the other hand, I have
installed Reporting Services and just wait & see whether they will conflict
with each other. If not, just fine for us.
Regards,
Peter

Now, I am very curious.CrystalReport from Business Objects and SQL Server
Reporting Services from MS are competitive products. Usually, you you
choose one or the other in your application/sulotion, not both. SQL Server
Reporting Services is a server side service. I am not sure the "Crystal
Report XI Runtime" you mentioned refers to clientsite report rendering
engine ( for desktop app reporting ) or runtime for service side reporting
services (similar to SQL Server Reporint Services, but why you need both
SQL Server Reporting Services and Crystal Report serverside services?).
Anyway, your short description of the app you bought sounds a bit strange,
at least, it make me curious. Who the vender is?

Dear Norman,
I have tried but they are reluctant to tell.
Thanks

Wouldn't it be simpler and straightforward to ask the vender whom you
bought the application from?

I am new to VS 2005 and SQL Server 2005.
We recently bought an application for creating and delivering
management
reports that require us to install .NET Framework 2, Crystal Reports XI
Runtime, SQL Server 2005 with reporting services & set up IIS.
From the web, I find that it should be a CR XU application for Web
Services.
However, I just wonder why they require to get the SQL Server 2005
Reporting
Services installed ?
Besides, it requires us to set the remote connection as "TCP/IP and
Named
Pipes". Since all out clients are running Windows XP, does this
requirement
is for other company that may still using Windows 98 ?
Thanks
Peter
