Hello,
I just have a few questions or comments. We are a manufacturing facility
with a mixture of VB, C, and fortran programmers. We are finally moving
towards the .net platform. There is a movement to standardize upon on
lanaguage, C#. In my opinion, I'll have have to know both anyways. But
after some trial and testing, I've found VB.Net to easiest to produce
"simple" applications. My other opinion was to not standardize upon, either
vb.net or c#, but rather the platform of VS .net 2005. This way we don't
have powerbuilder apps or some other lanagues out there.
The comment was made that the industry is mostly moving to c#. And from
what I see, this is true. But it is of my opinion that the reason for this,
Is because the C/C++ and java developers are the first to move to the .net
enviroment. Where as VB classic developers are still using VB classic. Once
these developers move to the .net platform, there may be a shift in the
numbers of c# and vb.net developers. Would anyone agree on this?
I am about to read the book from Dan Applemen from
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0006AB0N0/qid=1143734149/sr=1-3/ref=sr_1_3/104-3520306-9292734?s=books&v=glance&n=551440
I've read the user reveiws and found it interesting.
Now, for my questions :)
Can I get a poll from this group....
Did your shop standardize upon VB.net or C#? And Why?
Prior to .Net, what lanaguages where used to Develop apps?
Are you still using VS 6.0?
What is your primary industry?
Thanks,
Brian Shafer
Wow, you didn't try google'ing this first eh? I bet you'll get thousands of hits on it :)
