"Josh Reece" <joshreece1xx1@xxxxxxx> wrote in message news:30scak.ib1.17.1@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxI have two problems. The important one is that in some desktop folders I can only select files one at a time, but in others I can select a bunch at a time in the standard way. I've looked at all the tabs in the Options sections, and everything seems o be the same in both folders.
The unimportant problem is that on the desktop itself, when I select one file then another in a different column, instead of selecting all the files between them by column, the choice is by row. Yet new items are added by column, which seems to be a contradiction. Why don't both systems operate the same way?
Anyway, how do I get the selection to go by column?
Thanks for your help.
Josh
I've just realized that if I right-click on a file in the folders and pick Properties, there are 4 tabs in the folder which lets me select multiple files, but only 3 in the other. The missing tab is Custom. How do I bring up this option?
This was a red herring, I'm afraid. Sorry to have jumped to conclusions. The Custom tab comes up with certain types of file.
