when i turn just the monitor on a box comes up that says "no input
signal" then a different box comes up and says "monitor going to sleep"
then the screen goes black

They all do that. It shows that there is no video output from the tower..
You need to try a different power supply first as that is the cheapest option..
If there is still no life in the machine, you are looking to replace expensive bits..
