Hi
Connecting through a Wireless Router at the friend place means that your computer was set and connected to a Local network.
Connecting directly to the Internet (like in your home) is another type of connection and might need some type of Authentication (ID, PW, specific DNS. etc.)
If Barb's advice did not help, contact your ISP to get authentication instructions.
Otherwise if you are Not really connected directly to the Internet and you are unaware that your Modem is actually Modem/Router, post info about your connection’s hardware.

So just like everyone else I am having internet Connection issues with
Vista. Funny thing is it worked just a few hours ago.
My Story:
Two days ago I went to visit a friend and brought my computer with me
so we could do some gaming while I was there. Before I left my computer
connected to the internet fine. At my friends house I could connect to
the internet through his router fine. Now that I am back home I cannot
connect to the internet at all. I have tried everything I can think of
(updating drivers, re-installing drivers, etc).
I connect directly to the internet trrough the modem no router or hub.
I have tried several other computers and they connect fine it is just my
Vista machine. The other computers both have XP.
When I try to renew the ip used ipconfig /renew it gives the error of
not being able to contact the dhcp server and I have no dns name.
Any ideas on what the problem could be? Is it possibe now that I am
not using a router that Vista is looking for one that is not there?
Thanks
