Robert,
At this time on my Vista machine (GoliathVista) there is nothing showing in the Network dialog, i.e., after I click on Network in the Start menu. Not even GoliathVista itself. When I look at the network from the XP machine (GoliathXP) I can see GoliathXP but not GoliathVista. Yet I can ping the GoliathXP from GoliathVista and vice versa using the numerical IP addresses asigned by the firewall router.
Per your request here is the report from Win IP Config manager (www.pkostov.com) running on GoliathVista. Hope this isn't more than you wanted.
Thanks again,
Ed

Can you ping each other when that happens? If not, post the result of ipconfig /all may help.

I can see the Vista machine from my XP machine, but I cannot see either the Vista or the XP from the Vista. Only cure I have found is to reboot the Netgear (firewall) router, then reboot the Vista machine. Have never been able to catchech it at the cusp, so have no idea why it gets in a snit like this.
I have noticed that when it's in this state I can't connect to my Web site with WS_FTP, although I can always connect from the XP machine. the reboot thing fixes that too.
It seems that Vista is full of mysteries!
Any ideas?
TIA
Ed
