You have to be careful about this. The new MTU might improve the LAN connection to the NAS but can impede the "Speed" of the Internet connection.
I would set the MTU according to the Internet connection and try to increase the RCwin.
Try this free util. it might help in the setting, TCP Optimizer - http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php

Problem accessing shared folders on my Buffalo LinkStation mini NAS seems to
have been fixed by resetting MTU.
I pinged it with a number of MTU settings - the default value of 1500 didn't
work - 1400 did work so by trial and error ended up seting it at 1467 and
everything seems to be fine.
