Videos stop playing

Running Vista64, Windows Media Player v11.0.6001.7000, and also have Real Player (win32) v. 11.1, and the latest Irfanview. I also use Windows Mail v6.0.6. Recently I've noticed that most, but not all, video attachments to incoming mail will play for about 10-20 seconds and then the video just stops and the player screen goes blank. No sound, no video. This happens reagardless of the video player used. Also happens whether opening from the email attachment, or after saving to the hard drive. The sizes of the d/l files appear to be completely downloaded. Looking at System Information under System Summary/Components/Multimeda, both audio and video codecs are OK for status. (Not that I have a clue as to what a codec is, but I see it mentioned here all the time.) If I really want to see the video, I can usually find it on YouTube or other sites and play it completely with no problem. Can someone guide me on what I can do to fix this?
