Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Audio isn't the only portion of the New Mail notification.
The normal tray icon gets overlayed with a gold colored
envelope when new mail has arrived. If the OP can't see
the tray icon, it may need a customization setting change.

The third party add-on is for the purpose of minimizing WM
to the tray icon instead of minimizing to the taskbar.

While Windows Mail does have a audio new mail notification built into
it, the OP was inquiring about a system tray notification instead since
she doesn't usually have audio turned on. Personally I would think
Windows Live Mail with Windows Live Messenger combined would be better
suited to have a notification pop-up message.

Windows Mail does not have a notification tray icon included with it
