Thanks again Gary and I'm sorry to bother you but no luck. I have
uninstalled avast gone back into my email, clicked send/receive and nothing
downloaded. It ticked all the boxes to say it was done but i've got no mail.
I have spoken to my ISP and they have confirmed that all my settings are
correct as far as servers etc go and they can't help so it's obviously
something else. Any other suggestions??

Stopping the mail scanning in Avast does not stop its interference..
Your Avast antivirus was probably installed with its default install option.
If so, uninstall it, then reinstall, but select 'custom' install, which then
allows you to unselect installing its troublesome email scanning module.
While Avast is uninstalled, try Windows Mail again, just to verify that
the culprit has been found.

Thanks Gary - I am running avast 4.8 home edition. If I stop anti virus
protection I still can't seem to download my mail - any other suggestions?

Make sure your antivirus program is not configured to scan emails.
Which antivirus are you running? Some of them cause problems with
Windows Mail over time.

I'm not sure what's happened to my settings on my computer in the last 3 days
but I can't send/receive emails. I have internet access working fine and
have checked my messages on webmail but can't download/receive them to my
computer. I get a windows mail pop up box when I try to send mail that says
"The message could not be sent. An error has occurred. Get help from
communities" . Please help.
Thanks
