Re: Unable to open or save attachments in Windows Mail

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

I think it would be difficult to accomplish manually what the removal tool
does. Among other things, it removes several obscure registry entries.

Did you install IE8? If so, uninstall it per http://support.microsoft.com/kb/957700 .
That may cure both your IE problem and your Windows Mail problem.

I have just been reading other posts and notice that a few people with
similar problems also had trouble with downloads from IE.... which started
after having problems opening and saving email attachments.

One of your recommendations was to totally remove Norton(this was a trial
version on my computer, which i have uninstalled). You also suggest
downloading and running the Norton Removal Tool.

What is the contents of this removal tool? (as I can't do the download i
wonder if i can manually delete any remaining items?)

Like many others based on previous posts, am unable to open or save
attachments in windows mail. I think my problem is exactly the same as
"anhlyss" had in the posts in January. I am hoping there is an easier fix
than restoring factory setting. !!

As suggested in other threads, I have ensured that I have unchecked the "do
not allow attachments to be opened" box in options.

If I click on the attachment to open it, the little hourglass pointer comes
up, and then goes back to the arrow, but nothing else happens. If I try to
save the attachment, I get this message:

"There was an error saving one or more of your attachments, please check
your free disk space and try again"

I have more than enough free disk space.

Any suggestions?

Also today had similar problem downloading from IE. Tried to down load
Google Earth and the whole download appears successful. but at the end, it
just closes the windows and nothing is there!
