What kind of attachment? The program used to open an attachment depends entirely on what kind of file the attachment is, I.E. a Word document requires Word, a spreadsheet requires Excel, a picture might require one of several different programs depending on what kind of picture file it is (.jpg, or .bmp, or .gif, or whatever). If you have a Word or PowerPoint attachment, there are some ready made fixes for these.

Help, I have read all of the questions and answers regarding how to do this
but still do not know how to create. I am a beginner and need step by step
instructions. I have went into my control panel and then into
programs/default and that brought up a screen with names such Windows email
on the left side of the screen and then at the bottom of the screen were two
items listed which I have now forgotten what was listed; however, I clicked
on both of them and found nothing to indicate what to do or where to go to
next so please can you give me step by step instructions.
All I am trying to do is open an attachment to an email and I receive the
message I need to create an association in set association control panel.
Thank you for taking the time to help a girl who is going crazy trying to
figure out how to do this.
