Re: Contact list....lots of unknown contacts

Thank you for replying to the thread instead of replying directly to me via email.

I'd hazard to guess that Plaxo's the culprit here, Jack. I remember that it didn't always play nicely with Outlook Express (OE) so I assume the same would hold true in Windows Mail (which is based on OE and could be considered OE6.5 Beta).

I certainly understand why folks use Plaxo but I think you'd find that it would play best with MS Outlook.

PS: Don't even think about using Plaxo in conjunction with Windows Live Mail! <eg>

Well yes and no....when I first tried VistaWindowsMail. It asked me if I
wanted to import my contacts from OutlookExpress and I said yes.
I also have the add to address all that I reply to ckd as well...
I also use Plaxo and it updates my contacts as well from my other two
machines (which run XPpro) Plaxo does the merging offsite on their servers
and then lets me delete the duplicates before saving the file to transfer
between the machines.
And the contact file (I call it a contact info box) that I can clk on and
see the contacts info....looks identical on my vista machine and my xp
machines.
I don't see any difference in the two machines except for the vista machine
has all these unknown contacts.

I have since posting this message....gone thru about 100 of them and only 25
so far are duplicates as far as I can tell. There could be more...but its
hard to chk...I have to look at the unknown one..write down the info and
then search for that in the rest of the contacts.. And since Im older than
dirt,
wear glasses and can't type worth a crap...I could have more than 25 and
just missed them.
Also I currently have most of them in a separate contact list called
contacts1 just to separate them....but they were mixed in with the normal
contacts
for well over two months now...before I moved them.

Any ideas?

thanks
jack

By any chance did you import a CSV file of, e.g., your Outlook contacts
into Windows Contacts?

Tools | Options | Send | Put people I reply to in Windows Contacts: Is
this option enabled/checked?

Somewhere for some reason I now have almost 200 Unknown contacts in my
contacts list.
If I double clk on the name in the contact list which is named Unknown
it will open the address info box
and let me see who it really is....NO Matter what I change in that box
that
shows the real contact persons
info along with their real names....not the name Unknown..... in fact the
name Unknown does not appear
anywhere in the contacts info box.....
So how do I either merge them with the correct individuals info .... or
change the name to read properly

Your help will be appreciated.
