Re: Windows Mail Accounts, Outlook Identities

Hi Gary
You seem to unravelled the nightmare of Vista- may I pick your brains
on a similar issue. I use outlook (full version ) mainly because I like
to use the calendar - but like others I cannot set up alternative
e-mails as before. I dont like to share a sent e-mail box nor spend time
setting up rules so live mail option 3 seems the best ? I am not clear
how this works with outlook as hotmail is also windows live mail ? I
need to be able to send quite big files and do work from home on others
Like Mitchell below I also have no idea why the associated business
manager set up wizard comes up -every-time I open my mail ? BTW I am
linked to an online provider who allows up to 5 e-mail accounts - these
are both on their server before being downloaded to the default account
and I have ticked the box for retaining a copy on line. The address is
the pst folder and I cannot change that to an alternative hence the
grief about accessing the two (or more ) accounts at will

I have implemented Gary's suggestion to use Windows Live Mail and two
accounts. But occasionally the "Windows Mail" page comes up and we try
to use
it by mistake. I would like to get rid of Windowa Mail (uninstall?) but
it
does not show up on the uninstall list. How can I get rid of this
annoyance?

Windows Mail does not have identities like Outlook Express did.
By default, all email from all accounts goes into the same Inbox.
There are four different ways of changing that:

1. Use separate Windows user logins. That gives total privacy.

2. Use message rules to filter incoming messages into
separate folders.

3. Upgrade to Windows Live Mail which has separate folders for each
account, no rules needed: 'Mail - Windows Live'

4. Purchase an add-on called WMIDs:
'WMIDs' (http://www.oehelp.com/WMIDs)

Personally, I'd go for option 3, because unlike option 2, it also
segregates copies of sent emails.

Hello wise ones,
I have used Outlook Express for many years. I had several
Identities and could easily switch between them.
Now I have Windows Mail (Vista) and I set up two accounts (one for
me, one for Betsy).

Currently the email is stuck on Betsy's account. I cannot find a
way to switch to my account. And all of "our" mail is coming to
her mailbox.

How can I again communicate independant from my wife?
