Did you enable Gmail's POP option like it says to do in the instructions?

Thanks Dave and Richard,

I have updated the settings as you suggested. I am not able to send, but don't seem to be receiving yet. I've hit
SEND/RECIEVE a few times and this does appear to be successful but nothing comes in. I did receive messages in my Gmail
account however.

It's not clear which program you wish to use, Windows Mail or Windows Live Mail.
However, to access Gmail, you need to enable POP on the server, and follow these directions...

I tried to set up my mail system, but keep having problems. I am unable to send or receive.

I finally downloaded the Windows Live as it was recommended in the help section.
(FYI - I am running Vista Ultimate and would like my Gmail account to be
fed into Windows Mail). Anyway, the help section said it would take care of
all my errors and problems for me by setting up my account for me when I
downloaded Windows Live. Good deal, huh? Didn't work though. When I open
Windows Mail I immediately get the following error messages:

The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the
"I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining
the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

The rejected e-mail address was 'kmlysaght@xxxxxxxxx'. Subject 'INVITE:
Heyford / Melita - Comprehensive Exam', Account: 'pop.gmail.com', Server:
'smtp.gmail.com', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '530 5.7.0 Must issue a

Server Error: 530, Error Number: 0x800CCC78

Thanks for all help provided.
