Your problem is most likely caused by your antivirus.
Trend Micro antivirus is among the top three troublemakers for Windows Mail.
First, go into its settings and disable any interaction with email, then try
Windows Mail again. If no improvement, do a trial uninstall.

Another option (instead of uninstalling Trend Micro) is to upgrade to
Windows Live Mail, which is more resistant to the adverse effects of
intrusive antivirus products: http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview

In any case you must disable any antivirus email scanning, for the reason

No, that was the entire error message. I am running PC-cillin by Trend Micro.
It was installed on the computer when I purchased it.

I have just received another error message: Subject 'Test', Account:
'mail.bellsouth.net', Server: 'mail.bellsouth.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25,
Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC15

At times I get the error message that my SMTP Server has not responded in 60
seconds. Would you like to wait another 60 seconds for the server to respond?

Server: mail.bellsouth.net

That type of problem is usually caused by interference from a non-
compatible antivirus program. Which antivirus are you running?
As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus must be turned off,
although that may not be sufficient to eliminate all bad effects.
In a worst case scenario, your antivirus may need to be uninstalled.

could. I've contacted Bellsouth Tech Support twice and the last Tech person

I was attempting to send email from my laptop away from home. What is the
difference? Will I have to change my mail settings when using my laptop at

I also have a bellsouth email account that AT&T took over and ever since
then, I seem to have problems sending emails out. I can receive emails fine,
