Re: Windows Mail and Windows Live Mail can't "save as" more than o

I agree with you, Gary!! I've used that "save as" feature for ten years and
just discovered that it no longer works......but Vista has already been a
nightmare for this old gal. I'd go back to Windows 98 if I could, but sadly,
it appears that we're at Microsoft's mercy.

There shouldn't have to be a workaround for it. And I don't really understand
that workaround anyway. I phoned microsoft about it, but they won't help with
it. They told me to phone HP, as if they're going to be able to help. I had
this exact same problem on an eMachines PC, too. It's Microsoft's problem,
not a computer manufacturer's problem, but they don't want to fix it. It
could easily be fixed with a patch, but no one at microsoft seems to care.
I'm trying to help them fix it by reporting it on here and by phone, but they
would rather fob me off than help. I guess it will never be fixed, then. What
great customer service.

Sounds like a good workaround.

I think I have found a way, it is a little complex but better than every time
make new mails. First you open the mail that you want to edit, than you put
in an attachment and when you want to save your file as..... FIRST delete the
old file (don't worry your mail is open so you don't lose what is in it) say
no if it wants to save as the old file, than again save as..... and give it
the name you want. Now you can save your mail.

Don't try to overwrite the old mail because it doesn't work (unfortunatly)

I have the same problem, I use many email messages for a group that takes
lessons in paintshop pro. Normally I just had to change the lesson number
that is attached to it and I could save as..... then used the name from the
person that should recieve the message and later on send it.

Now that is not possible anymore?? And saving it in my windows mail will
mean saving a lot of mail (i have more than one group) in my folder drafts???

I use it as a word processor for work that is submitted to websites, so I am
resaving the file often.

The obvious workaround is to use a unique filename each time.
It's not clear to me why you would use "Save As" so much.
If you explained why you need to do this, we may be able to suggest
a better way.

Whenever I try to save a message to my hard drive a second time, i.e.
overwriting the previous document, I get an error message saying that it is
unable to save. I used to be able to do this with Outlook Express. Is there a
way to fix this? Windows Live Mail has the same problem.
