Did you maximize that window by clicking the maximize button,
or by grabbing and dragging it to the size you want with your mouse?
Only the latter method remembers the size.

I tried this. I open an email. It opens in a small window. I maximise it. I
shut windows mail. I reopen windows mail and double click an email it opens
in the same little window. I want to double click on an email and for the
eamil to open in a maximum window. Any ideas. Thanks

Is there a way to open my windows in Windows Mail maximized?
Thanks
The default behaviour for Windows is to remember the size that it was last
closed at.
So open WM, and drag it to the size you want it to open to with your mouse,
then close it.
