Hi John,
Thank you very much for getting back to me. I've been trying all weekend to
recover data that appears to be stored on my computer. When I go into the
loction
C:/User/michaelocean/AppData/Microsoft/Windowsmail and select properties I
get approx. 18,000 files and 253MB. When I continue I have a list of a
number of local folders called Local Folders, Local Folders (1), Local
Folders (2), etc. When I check the properties of Local Folders I get 24
folders and 4.15MB. When I go to Local Folders (1), and check the
properties of Local Folders, I get 1,562 Files and 123MB. If I go into a
folder, within the local folder and open for example a folder called Dad (who
by the way died earlier this year and I really don`t want to lose the letters
that he wrote me), I get a file called winmail.fol size 1kb. I appears to
be the case that the information exists or does it.
I use Shaw as my provider. Is there anything they can do? I`ve left a
message with them the other day, but have not heard back. Should I deal with
them?
I really don`t even know where to start with this and I think I`m just
creating mutiple folders with no data attached. Is there anyway I can go
back to square one and recover the data?
Thank you.

My apologies MichaelOcean I should have made it a little clearer that while.
future emails would remain on the server, emails that had already been
downloaded would not. I'm afraid I got distracted just as I was completing
the post and clicked the send button.
Again please accept my apologies for not making things clearer.

Hi John, This all is very clear and I tried it, however your last comment
(9) states "The next time you use Windows Mail you will still see the
emails,
but if
you look on your web mail server the original emails should still be
there."
does not make sense and I don't see the e-mails back in my Windows Mail.
Thanks.

It maybe that the 'leave a copy on the server' option has been disabled.
To
find out if this is the case do the following:
1/ Open Windows Mail
2/ Click Tools on the main toolbar, then from the drop down menu, Click
Accounts
3/ In the Accounts window select your email address (the one you are
having
this problem with, if you have more than one) and then Click the
Properties
button on the right of the window.
4/ In the Properties window, Click the Advanced tab
5/ In the Advanced tab window look towards the bottom for the section
marked
'Delivery'
6/ In the Delivery section look for the option marked 'Leave a copy of
messages on server'
7/ If there is NOT a tick in the box then this option has been disabled.
To
remedy this left click your mouse on the option box to the left of the
'leave a copy of messages on server' option. A tick should not appear in
the
box.
8/ Finally click OK, close down any other windows and then close Windows
Mail.
9/ The next time you use Windows Mail you will still see the emails, but
if
you look on your web mail server the original emails should still be
there.
