Thanks for the reply.
But, paradoxically the email remains in the outbox and doesnt send if I
disable the email scanner. Whereas, if I enable the scanner it sends the
email at least as far as the exchange server, although it does not reach the
recipient.
I am fast coming to the conclusion that this exchange server is not set up
to receive email and to forward them. Maybe it is "read only".
This is pure conjecture of course.
I have now tried this with Windows Mail, Outlook and Outlook express always
with the same results.

Email scanning in any antivirus must be disabled, for reasons
