Re: cannot send mail

Be sure to follow all the steps in
http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=86383

Then, in Windows Mail, go to Tools, Accounts, select that Gmail account,
Properties. On the General tab, where it says "E-mail address" put your
@aol.com address. Before you can actually send with that identity,
do the Gmail verification step I mentioned below:

account how do i link it up with my aol address and how do i set windows mail
up to use this?

You mean, if you set up a Gmail account? Yes, you keep your existing
AOL account for receiving. Also, you can send out emails through Gmail
using your @aol.com return address, so your correspondents won't
know the difference. Using your existing AOL email address with Gmail
does require a one-time verification procedure:

do still keep my aol address?

Thanks for confirming that the sent emails do not arrive.
However, that doesn't change my analysis of the reason for
why that is happening. Your Windows Mail is not at fault.
Email sent through the web interface use a different server
than email sent through the SMTP server, which results in
different treatment from spam filters on destination servers.

i know they has'nt got there because i'm sending them to work and friends, if
i send direct from aol it i.e on line, it reaches its destination.

How do you know the message is not being sent out?
In view of the fact that you receive a message sent to yourself,
I would have to conclude that the messages do go out.
If a copy of the outgoing message is deposited in the Sent Items folder,
it means your Windows Mail got a confirmation from the SMTP server
that the message was sent out successfully.
The main reason a message may not be received by the recipient is
because of a spam filter at the recipient's end, either on his computer
or on his incoming mail server.

One thing you might try is using a different SMTP server, since some
receiving servers consider AOL mail to be spam. You can get a free
Gmail account, and then use the smtp.gmail.com server for sending.
