I'm guessing that warning was from an "AntiVirus 2008", a nasty little piece.
of malware. I've had to remove it from several machines. If you have
McAfee setup to scan your email, it could be your problem. Email scanners
are notorious for working fine for lengthy periods of time, then failing for
no good reason. Norton and McAfee are the two biggest troublemakers
currently manufactured when it comes to Windows Mail issues. Attachment
issues are a common symptom of A/V scanner problems and restoring your
machine to an earlier time hints at that being the possible source of the
problem. If McAfee is set this way, you should consider uninstalling it,
then doing a custom re-install leaving out all email scanning features.
This does not leave you unprotected! The resident file system scanner
provides full protection from email malware, provided you keep it up to
date.

Strange deal --
Tried to access a website, to buy an low-voltage light fixture, and I
got a caution that my computer security had been compromised, and it
directed me to run a program to fix it. I did NOT run that program and
instead ran a scan on McAfee ---- which came out clean (anti-virus,
spyware, phishing, identity, etc.)
I rebooted the PC, which installed some updates.
I didn't change any settings.
When I couldn't open file attachments (.doc, .xls, etc.) after the
reboot I googled the issue and found the suggestion that I change
"security" in Windows Mail/Tools/Options/Security to uncheck the box
that says "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could
potentially be a virus." (???)
Anyway, that didn't fix the problem so I just "restored" the settings
to what they were 48 hours ago. I then had no problem opening
attachments.
As I said, strange deal. I seem to be OK now but I wonder if the
problem was caused by the security warning, which seems to have been
bogus, or the updates that were installed?
Thanks for your interest!!!!
