Norton Antivirus is one of the top three troublemakers for Windows Mail.
It may seem fine at first, but eventually it will cause corruption in WM.
One solution is to upgrade to Windows Live Mail, because it is less prone
to suffering bad effects from overly aggressive antivirus programs.

Hmmm, no I didn't try the custom install as I was looking for a better
antivirus with more coverage anyway. Do you think that Norton will
interfere too? It seems to be working fine now, and come to think of it,
when AVG wanted us all to switch from 7.5 to 8 was pretty much when I started
having trouble...

Well, thanks, but switching from AVG antivirus to Norton is like
jumping from the frying pan into the fire...
Did you try the 'custom' AVG install I recommended?

Thank you Gary... AVG was the issue, I uninstalled it and the Windows mail
program worked as it should... we're using Norton now!

When you try to send, what happens?
Do you get an error message? If so, post the complete error message.
Chances are, you installed AVG antivirus using its default install option.
If so, uninstall it, then reinstall, but select 'custom' install, which then
allows you to forego installing the troublesome email scanning module.
While AVG is uninstalled, try Windows Mail again, just to verify that
the culprit has been found.

laptop but not on this my desktop, I've double checked all the settings and
cannot figure it out, is there a blocker or firewall or something I should be
looking at? I'm using AVG free as antivirus
