Uh, why won't you take our word for it? The regular responders
here have been at this a long time and know their business.
Windows Mail doesn't have a native module to interpret
Outlook's .PST data file. It needs Outlook's DLLs to be present
in order to make the conversion.

Transferring between Outlook and Windows Mail is not a common
scenario since Outlook is a business class solution, while WM is
a freebie basic email client for home users.

Vista Business ships with Windows Mail, that is Microsoft's decision, so they must expect that business users will expect to be able to use the included email client. This is what we are trying to do, what we expected to happen was it would easily import the export of the Outlook PST file. We want to import that file into the Vista *Business* email client (Windows Mail).

It's not unreasonable for business's to expect to be able to import their email from their old pc's. Most businesses don't have an IT department, most are small and don't have dedicated IT employees.

So using plain Vista Business and it's included email client, Windows Mail, can we import the Outlook from out old main pc?

Thanks group.

Why does it need to have it installed in order to import from it? We have Outlook on our old pc, this is the new one without Outlook, we want to copy stuff across including email.

Surely there has to be a way of importing our old emails from XP + Outlook to Vista + Windows Mail? Microsoft must have been expecting this common scenario, there must be a way.

Sorry, I meant to write in here too.

We have bought a pc with Vista Business and expected Business to come with Outlook. Is this the case? We are finding Windows Mail rubbish since it won't offer to import from Outlook correctly, instead it tries to connect to internet, when we want to import the exported Outlook file.

Is there a fix for this? Is Outlook in Vista Business?

No version of Windows has ever come with Outlook. It's a part of some versions of Microsoft Office.

In order for Windows Mail to import from Outlook, Outlook must be installed.
