Am on Windows XP and also have AVG.
I'm having the same or very similar situation:
Windows Installer window keeps popping up.
Says TrayApp.msi must be run from a CD
I don't have a CD
This occurred when I tried to do my monthly backup to external hard drive.
Have not been able to efficiently use my computer since.
AVG is not running. Can not open Microsoft Word as it keeps telling me a
program is already trying to run and I must finish that installation first.
That installation is ... of course the elusive .. TrayApp.msi
Frustrated as hell!
Can anybody help ... or do I have to call Billie-Bob in India and stay on
the phone for hours? Option two: Contact Microsoft who will tell me it is an
AVG problem/mistake. Contact AVG who will tell me it is a Microsoft
problem/mistake.
Option three: Run all my recovery and applications discs (again) and let it
erase all my files. Four or five weeks worth of work down the drain.
Suggestions welcome .... Please!!!!

I had AVG 7.5 & upgraded to 8.0. The 8.0 caused my HP PSC1315 all in one to.
stop working properly. I disabled/uninstalled AVG and installed Avast, which
reaked even worse havoc. I uninstalled Avast and now am running no
anti-virus, only Windows Defender.
I am no longer able to uninstall the HP software. Have tried reinstalling,
hoping it would overwrite the corrupted drivers, to no avail. Errors I am
receiving: at startup the system tries to install TrayApp and returns a Error
1706, TrayApp.msi--Network resource unavailable. Have also received AiO CDB
software.msi cannot be found.
When I try to open the HP solution center, which is where one should be able
to access all HP functions, I receive a Parsing Error in file:
C:/programfiles\HP\Digital Imaging/bin/hpqscloc/1033.xml.
I hope my system is not ruined. What's my next step?
THANK YOU!!
