Hi,
You need to perform a clean install of Vista after that sort of significant hardware change. Do not format and the existing installation will be moved to a windows.old folder where you can recover data from. You will need to reinstall software from it's original installation media.

Hello everyone,
Iâ?Tve encountered a problem booting into vista business 64-bit after
upgrading my motherboard and CPU (from an ASUS+Pentium D to an EVGA 750i FTW
and Q6600). Iâ?Tve been running XP just fine for a month, but I eventually want
my vista boot back. I will list a description of the problem, the symptoms of
the problem, and the things I have done to get around the problem.
When attempting to boot into vista, I am greeted with a BSOD for about 0.10
seconds reading:
â?oâ?¦Restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives
or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it is properly
configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption,
and then restart your computer.

The computer then restarts. I had to take a picture to read what it said it
was so fast.
Trying to boot vista in safe mode gives the same problem. The last system
file loaded is crcdisk.sys. No other â?~boot modeâ?T (e.g. last known
configuration, etc.) successfully boots. This is a very common *symptom*,
but Iâ?Tve failed to fix the problem using the usual gamut of tricks: swapping
memory out, removing all unnecessary peripherals, hard drives, etc.
Iâ?Tve also booted from the vista CD and ran the repair utility. It reported
that there were errors, I recall, but it was unable to do anything (in time
Iâ?Tll get the diagnostic readout from that posted). After a restart the same
problem happens as above.
To me it smells an awful lot like vista is missing the proper things to use
the new nForce hardware (HD controllers, Ethernet, etc.) Would a manual
installation of something (e.g. nForce drivers) from XP or Linux be able to
fix this? If so, how would one go about doing this? The nvidia setup wizard
understandably refuses to run in XP â?" surely it does something less trivial
than copying .inf and .dll files to directories, right?

Intel Q6600
EVGA 750i FTW
WD 250GB Hard Drive, partitioned about 50/50 with a vista/XP dual boot
4GB Patriot DDR2-800 Mem
Nvidia 512MB 8800GT
I have various other bootable linux hard disks installed that don't really
matter to this discussion.
