Adam, check your PC user manual to see if there is a way of creating a recovery disc from your recovery partition. It is always best to have a backup just in case of problems at a later date. Failing that, it would be wise to invest I imaging software such as Acronis True Image and then image your partitions to either a removable hard drive or a set of DVD's.
My machine came pre-installed with Vista but I stripped off the PC manufacturer' copy (Vista Premium) and installed a full retail copy of Vita Ultimate. But prior to doing that I imaged the original Vista premium to a set of DVD's, so I can easily re-install Vista premium if I wanted to. My machine actually came with a hidden recovery partition and a Vista premium DVD.
Good luck on the install of the Japanese version.

Excellent!.
I don't actually have a DVD/install disc for my original Vista, it came
pre-installed on my computer, with a 'recovery partition' hidden on the drive.
I will be using a separate retail box version of Vista to install in Japanese.
Thanks again!

Simple answer to that question, Adam, is Yes. Just create another partition
and then install the Japanese version to the new partition. Of course the
Japanese version must have its own licence, you can't install your original
version of Vista and install the Japanese language pack (assuming you have
Ultimate or Business versions.)
Vista should actually sort out the menu, but if not VistaBootPro will do it
for you.
