Sure, why don't you go buy me one and then i'll throw my perfectly good canon one in the bin.
Or sell it or use it on a Windows machine.
Yeah - that's "problem solved". HP printers are crap IMO anyway. Try comparing the features of them and you'll see. Not to mention print quality.
Opinions. What are you printing, invitations to the Royal Ball?
But I shouldn't get carried away - it's clear you haven't properly read any of the above posts. Had you done so you would have read the words: "one of...". To give other examples; My webcam,Get a Logitech web cam. Problem solved.
It is a logitech webcam...LOL. Have you ever seen the difference between the frame rate of the linux equivalent of logitech drivers? Apparently not.
I don't use web cams nor do I use cell phones to take a picture or video.
wireless mouse and keyboard and of course the laptop I was trying to install it on.USB wired mice and keyboards aren't exactly expensive.
See my previous response in regards to printer.
See mine.
Really useful to have an OS that doesn't accurately report battery levels or viably manages wireless connectivity or hardware buttons.I don't do wireless but there are solutions if you were to ask on an Ubuntu forum.
Where do you think I went first? (as though there is another support community for ubuntu lol). One of the reasons why Microsoft and Apple are so popular is that you can get technical support (assuming your willing to pay).
You can pay Canonical.
The only similar system Linux has is red hat. But that wouldn't be much use either as the simple fact remains that manufacturers arn't going to release the specs/designs of their harrdware for all to see (for obvious competition reasons). Which is the only way for open source developers to write the necessary code. "solutions on ubuntu forums" are merely pale imitations of there windows couterpart or straight up dead ends
Linux cannot be blamed for Canon et al not making drivers for their hardware.
Oh and lets not forget that only recently has installing graphics drivers not been a massive chore. Ubuntu's done well with their repos on that one now thankfully (no thanks to the manufacturers). Sad part of that is that we're talking about just 1 distro - the problem still persists in most others.Don't use the others.
That statement flies in the face of everything the open source community stands for.
I don't belong to the "Open Source community". I belong to the Human Community. Ever hear of it?
Regardless however, it once again only proves my original point
about the massive lack of support from manufacturers in regards to the unix environment.
Their and our loss.
But all the aforementioned indicates just one thing: Linux is not a practical solution to the average user. Which was my original point! Don't think however, I wouldn't like it to be (all my music is in ogg format!).If one insists on incompatible hardware, you get what you deserve. I like .flac better.
FYI, I use ogg because IMO it is the best format for music, not FLAC. FLAC would only introduce noise to my tracks as the tracks themselves arn't rippped from a CD. But hey, to each his own. And I can play ogg on windows, just not as well as on Lniux (u'll know what i mean if you've ever wondered where the track attributes have gone when playing in WMP). But i use foobar for editing anyway. My point is that since ogg is open source, it is alot easier to interact with in linux then on windows.
The bitrate for OGG is less than .flac. .Flac sounds better to me.
If one insists on using poorly thought out counter arguments, one must expect to get their arse handed to them. Pardon my French.
Calling yourself the winner of the debate is what?

Oh and luck has nothing to do with the fact that manufacturers are not supporting an OS that has very little market share and thus is a poor investment on their part (with the possible exception of servers, but then - how many servers are connected to a printer). Its called economics. But I shouldn't be surprised, not everyone is endowed with the ability to think analytically.
..tough luck!
And for funsies - one of the pieces of hardware was a canon mp class printer - very esoteric indeed.
