I think I'll stick with Windows where everything just works. These poor Ubuntu saps are not so lucky.
HOWTO: DVD Slideshow
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
With the popularity of digital photography I would have thought there was a solution for a DVD Slideshow. Not yet. I've searched the web and the 'buntu Forums.
I did find dvd-slideshow in the Synaptic repositories. You need dvd-slideshow and you also need dir2slideshow -- not in the repositories. I got a deb from Dir2slideshow. dir2slideshow writes a script for you to use with dvd-slideshow. Both programs are command-line. Use the tutorial I found at this blog: Command-line Slideshow
From that results, which I previewed with xine, I burned with ManDVD.
There is an outdated GUI for dvd-slideshow, but I could not get it to work with Ubuntu's version of gamba. I realize this is a "bandaid" fix, but it works. I hope some of you find it useful.

Please assist me.
When, in Avidemux, I try to open an avi file that is on my computer, Avidemux disappears. When I right click the avi video and then click "Open with Avidemux", an Avidemux window opens for a millisecond and then disappears.
WHY DOES THIS HAPPEN AND HOW CAN I FIX IT?!!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ubuntu has decided to ignore my sound card
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've tried pretty much every possible guide and solution in here, since sound problems are pretty common, but as it seems, Ubuntu (9.10) doesn't even recognize my sound card is there. I've been trying to fix this thing for days and I feel like somehow I only made it worse
When I try to run amarok, it gives me the following error:
"The audio playback device HDA Intel (ALC268 analog) does not work. falling back to PulseAudio."
Also, I've made sure that nothing is muted (alsamixer, volume controls, everything), and since i'm on a laptop, no cables have been misplaced
