First line of defense would be to install mozilla firefox and use it
instead of IE - it's much more secure. If you're really serious about
security, I would also suggest you start looking at alternatives to MS
- they make the least secure line of systems on the planet.

It's true that Linux won't (natively) run MS software. It will run free equivalents for what you would need most. It's also true that Linux is not inferior to anything. It's also true that there are other distributions of Linux besides Ubuntu. It's also true that Linux is not the only alternative to MS.

A guy brought an XP computer over for repair today. Firewall disabled. No anti virus. No anti malware program. Everything you try to open crashes. I showed him Ubuntu. I'm installing Mint on his computer tomorrow.
