I'm using IE 8. I've read that it uses protected mode & that the
IE

impossible
my laptop to be infected by viruses, spyware, etc. ?but
The following is from the boook, "Windows Vista Unleashed".

Well, that's confusing! Administrator runs as standard user. Then

What other settings in IE 8 can I set or change to make IE 8 more

First line of defense would be to install mozilla firefox and use it
instead of IE - it's much more secure. If you're really serious about
security, I would also suggest you start looking at alternatives to
MS -
they make the least secure line of systems on the planet.
With all due respect, I don't think you know what you are talking
about. You better update yourself with some professional data (
http://174.133.151.130/~nsslabsc/test-reports/NSS%20Labs%20Browser%20Se
curity%20-%20Socially%20Engineered%20Malware%20Q3%202009.pdf ).
If you were to read the entire report, what this doesn't say is that the
'browsers' don't actually block anything.
Each of them goes to some list of blocked sites maintained somewhere,
either each publisher has it available via the internet, meaning each
browser contact wherever and see if the site was blocked or not...or, it
'updates' a list it holds locally that it checks first.
At least that's what I got out of it........
So it's not really a study of which browser is more secure, its a study of
which list is kept up to date better.
