Windows 7 is based on the latest variant of the NT kernel (NT 6.1) and Linux is a UNIX clone - the latest RedHat Server kernel being based on the Linux 2.6.18 kernel. That doesn't make it any less of a copy as far as appearance is concerned.
NT has its roots in DEC's work:
[Windows NT - Wikipedia]
"Microsoft hired a group of developers from Digital Equipment Corporation led by Dave Cutler to build Windows NT, and many elements of the design reflect earlier DEC experience with Cutler's VMS and RSX-11."
Linux has roots in MINIX which has its roots in UNIX:
[Linux - Wikipedia]
"In 1991 while attending the University of Helsinki, Torvalds began to work on a non-commercial replacement for MINIX, which would eventually become the Linux kernel."

Over 15 million users say you're full of shit.
Look at that CRAPPY Ubuntu - Less than one percent on the desktops out there
Which translates into 15 million.
and the damn product has been free for years. People avoid Ubuntu.
Most people don't know about Ubuntu but that's changing and Microsoft will bite the dust.
