Mike, can you really "turn memory off completely" from within the BIOS?
Won't removing the battery from a laptop revert the BIOS to default settings
like removing the CMOS battery from a desktop restores default settings?

I haven't ever tried to do it, so don't really know, but the computer is doing nothing at all as would happen if all memory was physically removed.
Removing the main battery doesn't reset the CMOS. The laptop will have a rechargeable battery inside which will maintain the BIOS possibly for any period up to 6 months..
