Borrowing a DVD writer, and some media that will hold 120MB of files,
and
doing the Startup Repair menu options and the F8 options would take
all of
one hour.
While it's been more than a year ago for me, I remember final exams
in
different schools, (and I'm sure you do) Board exams, etc. and when
you have
exams coming up on the weekend following a Wednesday which would
mean they
start Friday, you're feeling some pressure to get hold of whatever
notes,
etc. you need on your computer where you can do your thing in
private. Many
people don't have the notes, docs, whatever they need to take finals
on on
another computer. Some finals include take home essays. Who knows?
The Neosmart files that you download in the .iso from its links are
only
120MB so she only needs to burn a CD. She should be able to borrow a
DVD or
even a CD burner from whomever she can get the media from, if what
she says
means she doesn't have a burner of any type. It's not precisely
clear
whether she can burn a CD on that old notebook or not.

She may mean the laptop has the ability to burn a CD but among
neighbors, a
DVD writer shouldn't be hard to find where she gets some media.
Best I can recollect, Dell for example was routinely putting CD
burners in
boxes in the year 2000, and maybe OEMs were doing it earlier than
that. DVD
burners came a little bit later.

And as in many cases, if the OP doesn't check back, or borrow a
burner, we
can't do that for her.

Just to keep you all up to speed - this is continuing on Vista Forums.
Looks like it was the the malware getting aggressive after she
restarted the pc.
She has managed to do a system recovery , but there wasn't enough space
to save the existing contents of the partition.
I have suggested some free apps. that I found could recover deleted
files - even after a format.

1) Why if Vista forums are mirrored here did all of Sunni's subsequent posts never show here? Did she suddenly elect for them not to show here?
2) I tried to post to help her on Vista forums directly, but once you post either the mod holds them for a time too long to see your post and any response to it, or they vanish. I don't know which one.
