Hi,
DRM would not interfere with burning home video. Nor does this sound like a permissions issue, negating the need to monkey with access rights or policy editors (not that the latter would have helped in any case). Is there an error message you forgot to mention?
Was the drive working previously for burning? The fact that no program works for burning can indicate several possible issues:
a) some software has the drive locked, preventing others from accessing it. rebooting will not resolve this, you need to eliminate any programs with burning capabilities from the startup axis, and possibly use a tool like process explorer to see what handles are open.
b) the drive lens is clogged with dust and needs to be cleaned. this can be obtained at most any retailer that sells burnable media.
c) the drive is faulty and needs to be replaced.
As to the System Restore issue, usually the solution is to disable and reenable it after deleting the system volume information folders (usually after rebooting while disabled). This results in the loss of all existing restore points, but usually gets it working again.

Hi, I run Windows Vista Home Premium and for the past few days I have
been unable to burn anything to disc through any particular program. I
have scoured the internet for possible answers and suspect its something
to do with the last Windows update and DRM etc. I'll give you a brief
outline of the following things I have attempted to right this problem
(all of which have been unsuccessful thus far):
- Checked group burn rights for Nero 7 (which says everyone has access
to burn)
- Uninstalled all the most recent updates from microsoft
- Attempted a system restore (not working on my machine for some
reason, this will be another thread soon!)
- Looked at the Microsoft Excel spreadsheet listing the registry
actions and tried to edit/delete the ones noted in line 2017 and 2018
- Attempted to copy and paste the relevant gpdeit files from Vista
Ultimate to make gpedit work on Home Premium (its doesn't)
- Attempted changing permissions for use of D: drive (all users
allowed, still won't burn)
And have restarted my computer millions of times in the process.
I am a desperate man who desperately wants to burn copies of his
Wedding and Honeymoon Home videos. I also use my computer to edit music
I record and this currently problem is causing me much stress and
fustration. Could anyone please help?
Many thanks
Gareth
