Televisions never need to be updated, but then once you have bought them they can never "Gain" additional functions, that is why computers have software stored on disk and not permanently installed on chips like a TV has.

Removing "Unused" programs will free up some space on the drive but if they are not starting with Windows then the effect on boot time will me minimal, if anything at all. Removing things that "Do" start with windows however will save some time. Things like instant messengers, weather gadgets and that kind of thing.

Don't fall for things advertised as "Registry Cleaners" or "Speed Boosters". Most don't work worth a damn, many contain spyware and some are actually malware. If you are not sure always get some opinions first.
