Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance
You can't run chkdsk while running Vista. You must run it with a Vista
installation disk or repair disk. Boot from CD, click next, choose
repair, open command prompt, then type:

chkdsk C: /r /f
--------------------
If you get prompted to unmount the volume C:, Say YES.
This will correct disc errors. However, depending on the amount of
errors on the disk, you may need to run chkdsk multiple times.
