Yes I now realize there wasn't enough information given in my original
post.
Computer is a Compaq model SR5010NX about 2 1/2 years old.
2 GB of ram/2.47 GH
OS is Vista Home Basic
Everything functions just fine, except after resuming from sleep the
keyboard is inoperative (dead). To reenergize the keyboard it is
necessary to go to Start >Switch User>Enter , then all is fine and
working normaly. It is strange that even though the keyboard is dead I
can hit any key and the computer wakes up.
So all in all there is no trouble putting it to sleep or even hibernate
and waking up is no problem at all.
Screen saver was mentioned in one reply but cannot find that on this
computer.
For the dead keyboard, try updating your video drivers. You should only get
drivers from the HP (Compaq) website for your specific model computer.
While you're at the site, look to see if there are any other driver updates
as well as power management updates. If there are, download and install
them.
As for the "on resume, display logon screen", right-click on an empty area
of your Desktop. Left-click on Personalize. Left-click on the Screensaver
link. You will see the box that says "on resume, display logon screen".
Uncheck it. There is also a link to power settings there. This website has
