For about 1-2 years my computer ran fine until recently. Now,
whenever I
start up my computer it boots all the way to the Vista loading
screen,
seems as if it loads all the way, then shuts down with no warning.
This
happens at the same point every time. I tried putting in the Vista
DVD
and starting that up in an attempt to reinstall or repair Vista, but
I
get the same results on the same loading screen. The computer is
custom
built by myself.

Specs:
AMD 64 X2 4800+ 2.4GHZ
ECS GeFORCE 6100SM-M mobo
BFG Nvidia 8800 GTX
OCZ PC6400 2GB 800MHZ (Dual Channel)
Maxtor 160GB 7200 RPM HDD
Coolmax 600W CXI-600B PSU
(Everything is using stock settings)

Any help towards fixing this is very much appreciated.

The system shuts off and stays off? Or does it try to restart?

In my experience, a shutoff that is not followed by an automatic
restart
indicates hardware failure. Unfortunately, diagnosing this can be
expensive, because you have to replace components to see what works.

Heat is sometimes the cause of the problem. Get a can of compressed
air,
open the case, and clear all the fans and heatsink fins. However, if
heat
has damaged silicon, it won't heal and software can't help.

On one old case the system would see a crash, cpu wouldn't run at the
normal fsb setting in the bios, and evetually wouldn't do anything but
did have a large problem with a lack of case fans and a failed cpu fan.
The next build went a full year solid and suddenly wouldn't do anything.

The first there simply saw a board problem that drained batteries fast.
The next simply saw the battery on the board give out without warning.
In each case once a fresh battery was in you wouldn't think anything
went wrong besides the cooling problem on one.
