Just got a new notebook. First time using Vista Home Premium. Tried to
install MS Office 03 and an error message comes up that it needs to be
elevated. I don't understand. Is the older program not compatible with
Vista, or it is something I can fix.
Office 2003 works fine in Vista.
The problem you're seeing is that you are either installing using a limited
or non-administrator account, in which case you need to elevate your
account for the occasion, or more likely you need to run the setup with
elevated privileges due to User Access Control. . Part of the prompt
should allow you to do this , or, right-click on the installer and choose
Run As Administrator.
Completely turning off UAC, which is what's giving you this prompt, will
also stop this behaviour. Whether you think that's good or not is another
story.
