Where is this newsgroup?
Fortunately Microsoft is moving away from newsgroups, to controlled web forums. This group is virtually useless now thanks to all the trolls here. This nonsense will not happen on a web forum. Access is controlled, and the trolls and kiddies will be locked out.
It is perfectly possible to moderate a newsgroup if the organization can be bothered. That is no excuse. There has clearly been a policy decision, which many of us who use newsgroups, were not consulted about.

Why do you think the entire UseNet community should have been "consulted" by Microsoft about where it places its resources to enable;a effective peer to peers support etc for its products ?
The move to the web based forums is designed to provide the best possible experience for the users of those communities and to enable advanced features not available in traditional newsgroups. Time to get ready to move on.
Translation: MS wants more control and is scared that people like me will tell their paying customers about Linux.

You really think they care about a few copies of Ubuntu out there? I'll bet there are about 100,000 actual users of Ubuntu out of the so called 10 million downloads that Alias keeps chriping about.

Ballmer has stated in public that he fears Ubuntu. I guess he knows something you don't, although that wouldn't be a hard thing to do.

Alias
Yes, if there are actually 100,000 Ubuntu users, that's 100,000 fewer users that MS has. He shouldn't worry though, he is still a billionaire.
Ubuntu is growing in market share. Apple is growing in market share. Windows is losing customers. Them's the facts you need to live with, boobie.

Alias

Come to think of it, you are 100% right. Ubuntu is growing in market share. Just think, all Linux distros have less than one percent of the desktop market. I'll bet within 5 years that number will double. Just think, by 2014, TWO PERCENT of the desktops will probably have some kind of inferior Linux distro on them.

Nothing to worry about CHUM. Who knows, by that time I'll be retired and won't give a RATS ASS about how MS is doing.

I run SuSE linux on one machine and Windows as a virtual machine in a box.
I run Vista on another machine with SuSE linux as a virtual machine on it.
You may find that many people run both but if you have lots of machines you tend to go with linux since you don't have to pay for a license for each machine or any machine.
As a matter of fact I run several distros of linux and several versions of windows as virtual machines. It's amazing.
