Accessing Vista machine without using passwords/user ID login

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

I have a Dell laptop running Vista home Premium. It's my wifes and she has a
username/password for login.

Now, if I want to access the hard disk on the laptop from my PC on the network I
need to enter her username and password when a dialog box opens as I try to open
the machine via Windows Explorer/My Network Places.

How can I set Vista up so that we do not need to enter a user/pass?

Her other machine, a desktop running XP Pro, also has a username/pass. But it
doesn't require us to enter anything in order to access its hard disks.

Also, I have a print server on the network set up to share a Canon all-in-one
printer. For some reason it cannot see the Dell when it's "connected" to it via
the print server and software which remotely controls access to the print
server. ie. if I want to scan a document and file it it will see the XP based
desktop machine but it can't see the Dell, even though it's "auto connected" via
the software which emulates a USB connection over the network.

I'm thinking that it has something to do with the user/password login
requirement. If this is the case, I need to bypass or disable this requirement.

Any help on this would be appreciated.

The Vista laptop has had all sorts of issues accessing network resources or
network resources accessing it. Whereas all of the other machines, two desktops
and another laptop run Windows XP Pro but don't have any of these issues.

I am wondering if I shouldn't try to "retrograde" to XP Pro. Only issue is the
availability of WinXP chipset drivers and other software that the laptop, a Dell
XPS may require.
