on my new Dell Vostro with Vista Ultimate (all recent patches) I am
not able to download any files. I get a message that the page could
not be opened after a while. Also, I don't have to surf far to get a
crash.
When I activate the "run as administrator" check-box of the IE7 link,
everything works perfect. I guess running IE as admin isn't the best
idea though.
Any suggestion how I could fix this? TIA,

Thanks Rick! I have already tried to disable the addins - at least the
"loaded" addins. I will retry reloading all addins. Is it true that I
can only disable one by one addin (e.g. there is no global "addins
off" switch)? Are "plugins" something different? I did not notice a
switch for plugins.

Hi Rick, not luck: I started IE without any plugins, still no
downloads and many crashes. Any other ideas?

Thanks, Dave.
I did already uninstall the Norton trial version that came with this
new machine, viruschecker does not seem to be the problem.
In the meantime I found another way to avoid the problems without
running IE as administrator: when I set the security to custom level
(by removing the "acivate protected mode" option in the security tab)
then everything works fine. But I guess that's not such a good idea.
Is this a clue for the source of the problems (i. e. crashed, no
downloads and even some images are not being displayed in protected
mode)?

DC
