Re: Safe Mode

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

Thanks for all the tips......I think I have solved the problem, but will
keep a note of your advice for any future problems....Thanks again.Andrew Murray;933903 Wrote:
If you're in safe mode, it is running with minimal/basic drivers
including
video drivers so the full range of display options are not available.
So
you would get the VGA 256 colours (or lower) without access to 16 or 32
bit
colour etc - the full capability of your video/graphics card.

There's obviously something wrong if the system is telling you to start
in
Safe Mode (or if it goes to Safe Mode automatically).

I would run a few diagnostics e.g. the System File Checker, and maybe
Scandisk - and while you're at it (if possible) your virus scanner etc.
Otherwise, try a reboot, and the system should resume in normal mode.

However if it doesn't - and you're not seeing the words "Safe Mode" in
four
corners of the screen, it could mean your video card drivers are
damaged or
corrupted and the system's loading basic drivers for the
video/graphics.

Another suggestion is to shut down the system, open the case and reseat
the
video card (if it's a PCI, PCI-e or AGP etc). Check the VGA cable and
unplug and re-plug it into the VGA port. Check the cable at the monitor
end
as well, to make sure it's firmly in place.

Replace the case cover etc and restart the machine.

Check that it is booting to normal mode.

I went into 'properties', and task bar and start menus, but could
find
nothing to revert to the normal vista taskbar colour. Is there
something I need to do, to revert to the normal mode, instead of safe
mode? Thanks in advance. I have logged on about a dozen times, since
the original incident.
