I've found Vista drivers to work well with the hardware I have, Nvidia GTX260, motherboard chipset, onboard 5.1 audio, PVR-1600 tuner, Asus power management driver, etc.

I haven't seen enough of Windows 7 yet to state an informed opinion but Rick's comments seem just about dead on. I'd add that hardware manufacturers are at least as much to blame for us having to upgrade some older hardware. They are the ones who decide whether or not to write drivers for the new OS. My computer came with XP MCE 2005 and the OS switch to Vista was mostly painless. OTOH I own 4 peripheral devices and a sound card that the manufacturers decided not to support in Vista. Similarly the Windows 7 32bit Beta installed without significant issues on the same PC hardware. The Win7 performance index is actually a shade higher than it is under Vista for some of the components. Win7 32bit was missing 2 drivers after install, one that Dlink provided as a download on their support page but so far nothing for my Canon scanner. I wasn't so lucky with the Windows 7 64Bit Beta. That one is missing at least 4 drivers for the same hardware but I haven't yet looked for possible work-arounds for any of the missing drivers.
Apparently I need to source a news reader too for that OS. :-)

No pricing has been announced that I am aware of. I've not even seen a confirmed list of sku's (versions). As pricing patterns haven't changed much in the past 10 years, I would expect it to be similar to what you've already experienced. The question is do you need to upgrade all three machines? Consider the value of upgrading - ie: is there something you truly need or are you just doing it because you can/want to? Too often I see totally unnecessary and ill-advised upgrades, especially when it comes to installing a new OS on an old machine, though with Win7 the hardware differential is no where near what we saw from Win98->Win2K->WinXP->Vista requirement changes.

"Little Charlie" <littlecharlie@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote in message news:pvjal.2422$G24.1123@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxWhen I upgraded our 3 home XP PC's to Vista it was $150 per pc. IOW I paid right at $450 to upgrade 3 PC's. (Plus some hardware upgrades as well to run Vista)
What will Microsoft want THIS TIME to upgrade from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7?
Anyone know?
